Starting A Business From Retirement
Sure retirement is a Great thing. You work hard all your life towards that one final goal so you can sit around the house and spend time with your grand children, do the little things you never had time for while you were working.
So why would you want to start a business from retirement ?
I won’t say that was the first reason but I’ll give it number 2, we’ll get to that in a minute.
There I was fifty-five or six years old and the next thing you know I start losing weight and feeling real weak.
I was at work one day, I was in construction and we were building some scaffolding, and my boss hands me a plank to put on the tier above me and I couldn’t lift it high enough to put it up.
My boss tells me to go home and get some rest so I did. For about three months and I went from 200 pounds down to 105 pounds in that length of time.
Come to find out I’ve got Graves Disease or hyperthyroidism Meaning I am retired so I started collecting a check because I couldn’t work anymore.
I’m not going to go into all the details we came here to talk about the reason to go back into business from retirement not my problems right?
Okay not enough money to do anything but survive that’s not enough.
Just surviving is doing nothing but sitting around the house and watching old reruns as they say.
At that time my parents had just passed and it’s a good thing my sister and I ended up owning the house or I don’t know what would have happened.
Starting an online business was about the only thing that made sense.
Surely there are probably millions of people out there having the same problem.
You can barely afford your next meal let alone go out somewhere just to entertain yourself.
The only thing you can do is find a way to supplement that check your getting because if you don’t.
I couldn’t imagine being a door greeter or a janitor somewhere, so the internet made the most sense to me.
I hear you can make a lot of money here but I’ve yet to see it.
Grandkids, Grandchildren !
What was I saying before ? Oh yeah, the second reason was the sitting around the house and visiting with the grandchildren.
I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound like a lot of fun to me. I don’t have any grandchildren, excuse me I do have one.
Can you imagine doing nothing but sitting around visiting with your grandchildren.
Boy would that wear out fast. All the arguing and yelling and who knows what else.
Probably enough to make you pull your hair out.
Starting another business would sound like a vacation. Anything to get away from the house or at least lock the door and tell them you’re working.
Albeit grand children would be great but to have nothing else going on would drive you nuts and to afford anything else you would need another source of income unless you were collecting something else besides social security. Then you might have enough to afford them.
It’s Hobby vs Business.
The 3rd reason is if you find something you’re so passionate about maybe a hobby that you’ve been doing for years.
I used to have a hobby growing and training Bonsai.
I had a Bonsai of every kind or so it seemed they were everywhere in every kind of tray or dish or pot you could think of.
A lot of them were in the average looking bonsai pot with the big drain whole in the bottom so they didn’t retain too much water and drown.
Tall narrow pots were for cascading bonsai.
This way you could make them look like they were wind swept like when they hang down off a cliff somewhere.
We even, my wife and I, had trays that looked like a small bonsai forest.
Along with moss for grass and other real small ground cover so it looked like a scene out of some fairy tale.
Toothpicks would make a nice little cabin or a picket fence. The point is we had so many that the only way we could afford it was to sell some of them off.
Being so interested in something that involves a group of people and you feel so passionate about it that you want to expand the group and involve as many people as possible.
Last Chance Reason !
The 4th and final reason is just because you want the extra money.
A world trip is expensive even if you have enough money to live comfortably doesn’t mean you have everything you want.
What’s the first thing your children do when they don’t
have enough money for something they think is necessary ?
Right they come running to you for a hand up.
Having enough for that is going to take another income. Going back to work of some kind is the only resource.
Four reasons for starting your own business after retirement there you have them and I think they are good enough for anyone.
